WEIGH-IN WEDNESDAY #8

Minutes Exercised: 455
Last Week's Weight: 172 lbs
Current Weight: 174 lbs
Deficit: +2 lbs

i know this is a low amount of minutes, but I am SO proud of them this week because they were all high-intensity running/p90x minutes. woot :) Christine really kicked my butt in gear by saying last week that we needed to worry about the QUALITY instead of QUANTITY of our minutes.  that's why i brought the heat and intensity hardcore this week :D

now, while i've got all of you LHAers here,
this is an important question:
what shoes do you wear while running/working out?

i have some cute Brooks running shoes.  I only have them because I went to the sneaker store and that is what the man told me to wear, plus I am a tad shallow and he gave me the choice between two kinds and since these are pink and adorable, you can assume my pick. :) however, i am skeptical about the dude's knowledge.  i have flat feet and VERY bad knees.  and now that i've been running everyday, my hips have been acting up.  idk if this just means i am falling apart, or the Brooks are not cutting it for me.  i want NICE, GOOD, CUTE shoes :)  price does not matter, i am going to consider this an investment in my health.  I feel like this will be a great present to myself for working so hard at this half-marathon training.

so any comments/suggestions about what you wear/recommend would be greatly appreciated!!!

now.  my week.  i ate like crap.  yep... chinese, beer, pizza, beer, french fries, beer, the works.  that's why my weight sucks. (i love how i'm saying this before i even weigh in.  i can just feel it. haha)  but i'm turning over a new leaf with this 7-11 challenge.  i'm already making a dent in my goals, i was up at 5:45 this morning, i ran 2.6 miles in 40 minutes :)  i wrote down what i had for breakfast (monster milk, surprise!!) and i am about to leave to go grocery shopping for GOOD foods. :)

I am taking Lucy to the free movie at Mayfaire at 10am.  "Imagine That."  I'm not weighing-in until after.  (this will guarantee i stay far away from the popcorn.  brilliant, right?)  so I will come back and update this post and post it on the LHA blog after.

Here's to everyone having a great week 8, we can do this!

Looks like good exercise minutes to me. You have me beat for sure!

I too have been focusing on my endurance this week. It does make a difference.

Now as for the running shoes. I really want a pair of the new Nike free. I really buy into the whole barefoot running theory. However, I am very cheap. I went to Academy Sports the other day and got a new pair of shoes. I had been running in my Shape-ups and you are not supposed to do that, bad me.

I tried on tons of shoes and ran around the aisles a bit. I looked like a freak but did not care. I ended up buying the cheapest shoes they had. But honestly it was not just the price, they felt the best on my feet. They are a pair of Treadz and were only $14.95 can you believe that? I am like you and love cute shoes and these fit that criteria as well. They are brown/khaki/a light blue. I really liked the black/pink pair better but they did not fit as well. Turned out I needed my shoes in wide, but I am down from a size 9 to a size 8.

Hope your weigh in goes better than you anticipate.

Rock it, live it, own it!

It's not really about the brand of shoes as much as it is about the features. There are specific shoes for foot type. I personally wear a "neutral" shoe but you probably need something with stability or even pronation control, especially since you have flat feet. The thing is, every brand carries various shoes for various needs - that's why they have different names/numbers within the brand. It took me trying several brands (including Brooks) before I found a shoe that was good for my needs and my foot. It happens to be Asics. Maybe Asics would work for you, maybe not. One way to figure it out yourself is to go the Runner's World and take the wet test.

Once you've done that use the links on the side bar to go to the Shoe Finder where you click off the characteristics of your foot and they will give you options in many brands!

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Shoes......

I have a pair of reebok's trinity something or other. I have very very flat feet as well. These seem to be doing well for me. But then again I just started running....well more of a jog only for 5 min sprints but ya no probs at all.

Maybe see if you can find a runners store type thing.

I need shoes as well seems my feet are shrinking.

Hi!! I love it, I had a "The works week too" and only worked out 2 days! insane I know... no surprise I didnt loose any weight at all- didnt gain either which I guess is good...
SO shoes- I actually went to a running shoe store because I wanted to get my feet measured and tested for the best possible running shoee... I am trianing for a 1\2 marathon (doing it in Vegas on 12\5\10) so I figured I should get my feet into something good. I was surprised to hear the consultant (yes they have consultants at these stores!) say that its not about th ebrand its about the cushion and shape of the shoe. The best ones for my flat, wide, low arch feel were my lovely brooks! i love them I seriously feel like I am jogging or running in air!
Good luck!

I went to a RunFit store and got fitted. There are a lot of different running shoe stores. The consultants will(SHOULD) ask all kinds of questions, how often you run, what surface you run on, and they should watch you run or at least walk. You may need a shoe with more cushion than the Brooks offers. Especially if you are running every day. Maybe consider taking a day between runs to let your body recover?
I wear Brooks at work but I've had to add cushioning inside. I work on an all concrete floor and they just don't hold up well on the concrete. My feet were killing after about 5 hours. Not good!
